The World Bank is supporting an 81 million U.S. dollars Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) in Bangladesh which aims to enhance the technical and institutional capacity of the higher education sector.
According to a press release of the bank issued here Sunday, the project seeks to establish conditions that will stimulate teaching, improve learning, and boost research in universities, and introduce an efficient instrument for the allocation of public funds to universities.
Under HEQEP, an Academic Innovation Fund has been established to enhance the quality of teaching, learning and research in the country, it said.
The project also aims to integrate Bangladesh's universities in the globalized world of knowledge, it said and added the establishment of a Bangladesh Research and Education Network will provide high speed connectivity among the universities and research institutions both within the country and globally.
This will allow the teachers and students of Bangladesh to access the latest developments in the realms of knowledge, the press release said.
It said the project also aims to establish a digital library to provide university faculty and students access to the global repository of knowledge.
